As Thanksgiving approaches, we're all thinking about that yummy turkey dinner, but when thinking about cooking, everyone's safety must be a priority.
If you do choose to fry your turkey, here are some safety tips you should take into consideration.
- Keep the fryer away from the house and any trees
- Thaw turkey before frying - the oil mixed with water could cause a fire
- Make sure the fryer is level, and avoid moving it after it is in use
- If you're using a propane powered fryer, place the tank at least 2 feet from the burner
- NEVER leave a fryer unattended
- Turn off the burner before placing the turkey in the oil.
- If the oil makes contact with the burner it can cause a fire
- When removing the turkey
- Wear goggles and oven mitts or gloves.
- Always keep children and pets away from the fryer
